The primary goal when creating Avion Jackets was to design a product that was effective. From the initial planning phase, we focused on a design that was both effective and safe to use. The support structure built into the Avion Jacket is strong and capable of supporting the weight of the head, and thus providing stable and consistent support to the relaxed neck muscles while the user sleeps.

By nature, when you go to sleep your entire body and all of your muscle groups relax and go limp. The weight of your head becomes increasingly heavy as you drift to sleep, and once you enter sleep it will fall forward with gravity. If unsupported your head will end up hanging as far forward as it can go and can cause neck pain. Whether your head falls forward or in a sideways direction it will over extend your neck muscles on one side of your body and in turn, pinch them on the other side.

That's what the support system in the Avion Jackets so useful and we can't overstate how well the system supports and stabilises your head in a comfortable position. When used correctly all of the muscles in the neck will remain within a comfortable and safe range of alignment and will be prevented from over extension, pinching and compressing nerves underneath muscles and muscle groups. Prolonged periods of muscle over-extension or pinching, can lead to conditions such as cervicogenic headaches, tension headaches, osteo-arthritis and postural strain.

Poor posture puts pressure on your posterior muscles, which has a negative impact on your neck. Over time, poor posture can cause the natural curve in the spine to change shape, putting an excessive amount of pressure in the wrong position. Forward head posture is often accompanied by forward shoulders and a rounded upper back, which can lead to pain the neck, upper back, and/or shoulders. The longer the poor posture continues the more likely that neck pain, stiffness and other symptoms may develop.

Forward head posture increases the workload for many of the muscles attached to the cervical spine, which has the job of holding up the head. With suboccipital muscles, 4 pairs of small muscles connect the lower back of the skull to the top of the cervical spine and help with head rotation and extension. When the head falls forward for prolonged periods these muscles, as well as the semispinalis capitis, kevator scapulae and trapezius are all over-stretched.  The front scalene muscles, posterior, middle and anterior are also under a lot of pressure when the head is over-extended. Similarly, when the head falls too far to one side the large atem cleidomastoideus muscles are over-extended.

The Avion Jacket, when used correctly, will protect your neck and back muscles from over stretching, so when you wake up after your inflight sleep you won’t be sore or cramped. Made for the utmost comfort and support.
